One thing is clear from our Newcomer award this year; Bristol diners, or at least those who read Metro, have class. In fact the overwhelming theme of comments for picking Goldbrick House was a palpable sense of relief that at last we had a quality establishment to rival other cities.
That's not to say that Goldbrick House smacks of pretension; in fact most of you felt perfectly at ease there, for after work drinks, a romantic meal out, business meetings and Sunday brunch.
It was the sheer versatility of this 150 seater restaurant, cafe, champagne bar and lounge that gained votes. But it was the decor and atmosphere of a private members club that captured your imagination. Spread over five levels of a Georgian townhouse, there are chandeliers, retro wallpaper and a warren of nooks and crannies to curl up on a leather sofa with a cocktail from the extensive list.
You lavished praise on the modern European dishes created by head chef Piero Boi and his team - most especially the use of top notch, seasonal ingredients. No-one begrudged the relatively high prices for the return of being made to feel fabulous. And why not?
